Clash Royale Just Leveled Up Competitive Play: Welcome to the Crown Series!
Grab your favorite deck mat and get ready to brainstorm some fresh card combos, because Clash Royale is introducing a massive competitive revamp: the Crown Series! Supercell is rolling out recurring monthly tournaments featuring head-to-head Duels, tiered skill brackets, level caps, and piles of loot.
Whether you love grinding ladder or prefer testing your drafting skills across multiple decks, this new system is designed to give everyday brawlers and top-tier pros alike a fair, rewarding battleground every single season. Let’s break down everything you need to know before stepping into the arena.
Unlocking the Crown Series: Arena 17 & 6,000 Trophies
First things first: who gets an invite to the party?
To jump into the Crown Series tournaments, you’ll need to hit Arena 17 with at least 6,000 Trophies on Trophy Road. If you haven’t climbed there just yet, consider this your official motivation to push the ladder. Hitting that 6K milestone unlocks your ticket into the seasonal tournament rotation, where you’ll face opponents matched closely to your current skill level.
The Duel Deck Format: No Duplicates Allowed!
Forget relying on a single one-trick pony deck. The Crown Series runs exclusively on the Best-of-3 Duel format, meaning versatility is the name of the game.
Here is how deck building works:
- Your Duel Deck loadout: Found right in the top corner of your deck screen, your Duel setup can hold up to 4 distinct 8-card decks (32 cards total).
- The Golden Rule: Every single card can only be used once across all your decks. If your beloved Log or Fireball is slotted in Deck 1, you must find other spell answers for Decks 2, 3, and 4!
- Minimum requirement: Since Duels are Best-of-3, you can choose to prepare only 3 decks (24 unique cards). However, having that 4th deck ready gives you unmatched tactical flexibility to counter whatever curveball your opponent throws your way.
Need Help? Fire Up the New Deck Wizard
Staring at an empty card slot and wondering how to patch your defense? The revamped in-game Deck Wizard is here to do the heavy lifting.
The tool scans your personal card collection and automatically cooks up balanced setups with strong synergies. Even better: if you have a favorite win condition you absolutely must run (say, Hog Rider, Goblin Drill, or Lava Hound), the Wizard can build an entire shell around it while smartly ignoring cards you already locked into your other Duel decks.
13 Tiers of Competition: The League Breakdown
To ensure fair matchmaking, the Crown Series sorts players across 13 distinct Leagues based on prior achievements—looking at your Trophy Road standing, peak Ranked finishes, Ultimate Champion history, and past Crown Series results.
The leagues are divided into two main categories:
1. Independent Leagues (Leagues 1 through 8)
Starting out, you will battle inside your specific rank:
- League 1: Dagger League
- League 2: Pancake League
- League 3: Mustache League
- League 4: Magic League
- League 5: Hammer League
- League 6: Armor League
- League 7: Phantom League
- League 8: Queen’s League
2. The King’s League (Leagues 9 through 13)
Once you rise through the ranks, you enter the prestigious King’s League. During regular Duel Weekends, matchmaking in this bracket is pooled together, meaning any King’s League player can be paired against another contender within Leagues 9 through 13.
At the start of every fresh season, the system recalculates your placement based on your latest triumphs and previous Crown Series performances, giving you a shot to climb into higher brackets.
Balanced Playing Field: Card Level Caps per League
Matches use your own card collection, but nobody likes losing purely to raw card-level imbalances. To keep games fair and skill-focused, Supercell placed strict level caps on each league tier:
| League | Name / Tier | Maximum Card Level Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Leagues 1 – 2 | Dagger & Pancake | Level 11 |
| Leagues 3 – 4 | Mustache & Magic | Level 12 |
| Leagues 5 – 6 | Hammer & Armor | Level 13 |
| League 7 | Phantom | Level 14 |
| League 8 | Queen’s League | Level 15 |
| Leagues 9 – 13 | King’s League | Level 16 |
Thanks to these caps, mid-tier players can compete comfortably without worrying about facing maxed-out card stats early on.
Tournament Calendar: Duel Weekends vs. Grand Duels
Each Crown Series competition runs across a 72-hour window, kicking off every Friday at 09:00 UTC and wrapping up on Monday at 09:00 UTC. Seasons will follow a reliable weekly schedule depending on the monthly calendar:
- In a 4-Week Season: Duel Weekend 1 ➔ Duel Weekend 2 ➔ Grand Duel Weekend ➔ Break Weekend.
- In a 5-Week Season: Duel Weekend 1 ➔ Duel Weekend 2 ➔ Duel Weekend 3 ➔ Grand Duel Weekend ➔ Break Weekend.
That final break weekend gives your thumbs a breather before the next season starts back up.
Regular Duel Weekends
During standard Duel Weekends, the goal is simple: win 8 matches before suffering 3 losses. Rather than claiming prizes after individual rounds, your winnings are packaged into a bundle at the end of your run based on your total win count.
The High-Stakes Grand Duel Weekend
Grand Duels serve as the grand finale of each month, featuring larger brackets and richer prizes delivered shortly after the weekend concludes:
- For Leagues 1 – 8: The threshold expands to an endurance test—aim for 12 wins before hitting 4 losses.
- For the King’s League (Leagues 9 – 13): True competitive masters play up to 20 total battles to stake their claim on the leaderboards. If multiple contenders hit identical win counts, tiebreakers decide the crown based on: fewer losses, total net games won within Duels, strength of beaten opponents, and who locked in their final score earliest.
Massive Rewards & The King’s League Jackpot
Performing well in the Crown Series puts serious progression in your pocket. As you rack up wins—from 1 victory all the way to 7 and 8 wins—you unlock scaling bundles of:
- Mountains of Gold to upgrade your collection.
- Wild Cards of all rarities, starting from Common and Rare up through Epic, Legendary, and elusive Champion Wild Cards.
- Exclusive Cosmetic Banners & Frames to show off your achievements on your battle profile.
The Grand Duel Jackpot: Free Pass Royale!
For elite brawlers reaching the pinnacle of the King’s League during Grand Duels, the stakes are even sweeter: top-placing players stand a chance to claim a free Pass Royale voucher, delivered directly to their linked Supercell ID!
